Japan has signed a new agreement on security and defense with the European Union in Tokyo on Friday. The agreement is aimed at tackling various challenges in the field of security, such as cyber threats and climate change.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said: "This agreement reflects our commitment to strengthening cooperation with the European Union in the areas of security and defense. We are preparing to jointly combat global threats and challenges."
The agreement also provides for the exchange of information, joint exercises, and participation in peacekeeping operations. It is planned to come into effect at the beginning of next year and will be active for five years, with the possibility of extension.
