A 43-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder after injuring two passengers on a Tokyo subway train on Wednesday, May 7. The incident occurred during rush hour, causing chaos and violence in an environment that is generally perceived as safe.
The attacker, armed with a knife, was caught by other passengers inside the car while attempting to carry out the violent act. Despite the passengers' attempts to resist, two people were injured, one in the finger and the other in the head, but fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect did not resist arrest and remained at the scene of the incident until the police arrived. Subsequently, the subway service was temporarily suspended for inspections of the affected cars.
Upon returning to the platform, one of the injured urgently requested an ambulance before collapsing on the ground, while the attacker was detained on suspicion of attempted murder.
