The Japanese city of Kyoto has introduced a new residence tax system consisting of five categories, ranging from 200 to 10,000 yen. The city of Himeji stated that it will use the new taxes for maintenance and preservation of the castle. The government of the Japanese city of Kyoto increased the residence tax for people staying in hotels and other accommodation facilities starting yesterday, reaching 10,000 yen ($64.1) per person per night. Japan's Kyodo News Agency reported that similarly, the city located in western Japan, which includes Himeji Castle, a World Heritage site, has increased the entrance fee for non-residents aged 18 and over from 1,000 yen to 2,500 yen.
