The auditorium of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, which recorded the destruction following the American atomic bombing of the city in 1945, welcomed 80 million visitors yesterday. According to the Japanese agency Kyodo, the museum reached this significant milestone 70 years after its opening in 1955.

The museum's director, Yoshifumi Ishida, stated at a ceremony dedicated to this event: "I hope that visitors from Japan and from around the world, as well as future leaders, will continue to visit the museum and understand that nuclear weapons are absolute evil."

Visitor number 80 million was Rena Shimura (23 years old) from Tokyo, working at one of the cafes. Shimura shared that she listened to stories of survivors after the bombing while studying in middle school, which inspired her to visit the museum.
