Japan and China Strengthen Economic Cooperation

At the APEC leaders' meeting, Japan and China underscored their commitment to enhancing economic ties, cultural exchanges, and cooperative efforts in healthcare, signaling a pivotal moment in their relationship amidst regional challenges.


Japan and China Strengthen Economic Cooperation

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba during the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and emphasized the importance of the relationship between China and Japan, which goes beyond bilateral ties. Ishiba, for his part, highlighted the potential for economic cooperation between the two countries and expressed that Japan does not plan to disconnect from China.

In his statements, Ishiba mentioned Japan's interest in strengthening cultural and people-to-people exchanges with China, as well as promoting cooperation in various areas such as trade, green development, and medical care. He also stressed the need to rapidly implement the consensus reached on the discharge of contaminated water with nuclear waste from Fukushima.

Additionally, the Japanese Prime Minister reiterated Japan's stance on Taiwan, based on the 1972 Japan-China Joint Communique. Xi Jinping pointed out that the relations between China and Japan are undergoing a critical period of improvement and development, given the current international and regional situation marked by changes and turbulence.
