In Japan, on Sunday, select constituencies were opened for parliamentary elections, which, as expected, will be challenging for the new Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
The Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, is facing a serious test in the parliamentary elections, which take place under conditions of rising discontent among the population. Residents of the country are protesting against the government's actions regarding the pandemic and the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Ishiba officially announced the elections against the backdrop of a rising number of coronavirus cases and criticism of public health safety. His party will face the largest opposition forces – the Constitutional Democratic Party, the Social Democratic Party of Japan, and the Communist Party of Japan.
"These elections will be a test for Ishiba's government and its course, adopted during the pandemic. They will show whether the Japanese population supports its decisions or not," noted political analyst Hiroshi Okamoto.
