Beijing, December 25 (Xinhua) — The Chinese government urged Japan on Wednesday to immediately clarify the situation caused by a water leak containing radioactive substances from a nuclear reactor during decommissioning work. It also demanded strict safety measures and international control. 'Japan must take measures to properly manage the decommissioning of nuclear power plants and the disposal of radioactive waste,' said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian at a regular press conference, according to the Argentine News Agency. The spokesperson stated that the Japanese government must draw 'all possible lessons' from the 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident and seriously fulfill its responsibilities in nuclear safety. In this regard, he emphasized the need for Tokyo to submit to international supervision to alleviate global concerns. China reiterated its critical stance on Japan's management of nuclear risks and noted that incidents of this type cause concern not only regionally but also within the international community due to potential environmental and health impacts.
