Japan's defense minister said Chinese fighter jets directed a fire-control radar at Japanese fighter jets over international waters on Saturday near Japan's Okinawa islands in two separate incidents that Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi described as "dangerous".
"These are dangerous actions that could lead to an unintended escalation," Koizumi told a press conference.
He said the first incident occurred on Saturday morning when four Chinese J-10 fighter jets approached Japanese aircraft, and one of them turned on its fire-control radar. The second incident occurred later the same day when two Chinese fighter jets again directed their radar at Japanese aircraft.
The defense minister called on China to respect international laws and stop such actions that threaten the region's security.
