Japan begins studying recognition of Palestinian state

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takayashi stated during a parliamentary session that her country has begun studying the timing of the recognition of the State of Palestine, according to Bloomberg news agency. She said that the discussion is no longer about whether Japan will recognize a Palestinian state, but about when it will do so. In response to a question whether Japan will follow the steps of other countries in recognizing Palestine as a state, Takayashi clarified: "We will comprehensively study the most impactful timing and the appropriate mechanism for recognition." She once again affirmed Japan's commitment to the two-state solution as a way to resolve the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis. It is worth noting that about 80% of UN member states have already recognized Palestine.
