For the first time in 130 years, Mount Fuji, one of the most famous symbols of Japan, is left without a snow cover this time of year, as announced by the Japan Meteorological Agency. Typically, snow covers the summit of this volcano starting from October 2. After that, many visitors begin their ascent to it after the onset of darkness to see the sunrise from its peak at an altitude of 3,776 meters.
Last year, the first snowflakes on this mountain were recorded on October 5. However, this year, due to high temperatures, there has been no snowfall. Since record-keeping began in 1894, the first snowfall has never been late after October 26, which is a record noted in both 1955 and 2016.
Usually, Mount Fuji is covered with snow for most of the year, excluding the period from July to September.
