Visitors in Japan Face Waste Disposal Issues

As shown by a government study, visitors to Japan identified the lack of trash bins in public places as the main reason for discomfort during their stay. The Kyodo agency reported that Japan's tourism agency noted that 21.9% of more than 4,000 foreign visitors surveyed at five major airports in the country referred to this problem as the most irritating.

Despite improvements in indicators at all percentage points compared to the previous year, many survey participants stated that they could not find a place to dispose of trash and had to take it back to their accommodation. It should be noted that previously in Japan there were many trash bins in public places, however, many of them have been removed in recent years due to safety concerns following terrorist attacks in the country.
