Japanese Group KID PHENOMENON Releases New Single ‘Mirror’

The Japanese group KID PHENOMENON has released their seventh single, 'Mirror', marking a significant shift in their direction towards a more introspective and emotional sound. Since their debut in 2023, the seven-member group, representing the 'TOKYO NEO POP' culture, has consistently placed all their releases in the Oricon Top 5, solidifying their position as one of the most promising new acts on the Japanese scene. 'Mirror' presents itself as a melancholic anthem that seeks to reflect the silent struggles of Generation Z, addressing contradictory emotions and thoughts that often remain hidden in an increasingly digital environment. The lyrics, written by Donguri Ameno, delve into identity and authenticity, moving away from the energetic style of their previous single, 'Black Flame', to offer a softer and more contemplative atmosphere. Group member KENSUKE SOREMATSU shared his first impressions on the theme: 'I really liked the sound, which has a nostalgic touch. I also felt it would combine very well with the vocals of the vocalists, KOTA and TSUBASA, so I was excited to hear this song performed by them.' Additionally, the artist highlighted his personal connection with the lyrics: 'I strongly identify with the phrase: 'I want to be myself, even if no one likes it. If I can say that, my perspective will change.' Now I have confidence in myself, but I didn't before, and I used to act as expected of me or try to go unnoticed.' Their second release, 'Existence', reached number one on the Spotify Viral Chart, consolidating their connection with new audiences. Just three months after their debut, they participated in the 'THE FIRST TAKE' channel, where their live performances were widely recognized. Since then, all their singles have remained in the top five of Oricon, while they continue to expand their international presence, including their participation in the Vietnamese program 'Tân Binh Toàn Năng'. Within hours, the official video garnered over a million views on YouTube, reflecting the interest generated by the group's sonic evolution. The single is now available on all major digital streaming platforms. This release comes at a key moment for KID PHENOMENON, which has experienced notable international growth. Recently, the group participated in SXSW 2026 in Austin, Texas, a significant milestone in their global expansion and their positioning outside of Japan. An upward trajectory Since their official debut on August 23, 2023, with the single 'Wheelie', the group has maintained an upward trajectory.
