Japanese Stocks Hit Record Highs Amid US-China Trade Deal

Japanese stocks led gains in Asia on Friday as investors assessed the truce between Washington and Beijing, following a meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. The Nikkei 225 index rose by more than 1%, hitting a new all-time high, while the Topix added 0.79%, also marking a peak. The South Korean Kospi index gained 0.22% after it also reached a new record high on Thursday. The market was boosted by a significant trade deal reached during a key meeting in South Korea, which eased tensions over a rare earths dispute that had threatened to push the world's two largest economies into a full-blown trade war.
