Japan Requests Exemption from US Tariffs

Japan has requested the US to exempt it from tariffs on steel and aluminum imposed by President Trump. This move follows international backlash against the tariffs.

Japan Requests Exemption from US Tariffs

Japan appealed to the USA yesterday with a request to lift the customs duties introduced by President Donald Trump on the import of steel and aluminum, announced the official representative of the Yoshimasu Hayasi government. Trump signed an order imposing a 25% customs duty on imports of steel and aluminum from March 12, which caused discontent at the international level, including Canada, Mexico, and the European Union. "We are in the course of presidential instructions on additional customs duties on steel and aluminum... We have asked the American government to exclude our country from these measures," said Hayashi at a press conference, noting that the request was directed through the Japanese embassy in the USA.
