SoftBank to Invest in AI with OpenAI Partnership

SoftBank's Masayoshi Son announced a $3 billion annual investment in OpenAI technology, collaborating to launch SB OpenAI Japan for enterprise AI services.

The head of SoftBank Group, Masayoshi Son, announced on Monday that he has reached an agreement with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to create a joint project in Japan to provide artificial intelligence services to corporate clients. This project, named SB OpenAI Japan, will be co-owned by the American company and another one based on SoftBank.

According to the information, the SoftBank investment group will pay $3 billion annually for the use of OpenAI technology through its company. A week ago, Reuters reported that Son aims to deepen his involvement with the developers of the ChatGPT chatbot and invest $15-25 billion in the company.

"We have agreed to create a joint project involving an American company and a local project company in Japan for clients," said Son.
