Sinkhole in Yashio Causes Complicated Rescue

During the morning of Tuesday, January 28, in the city of Yashio, located in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, a sinkhole occurred on a street that trapped a Japanese truck driver in an open pit in the middle of the road.

Rescue teams are working to save the 74-year-old man who fell with his truck into the huge hole. However, the task is complicated due to the instability of the road, especially after another sinkhole formed a few meters from the first. Although it was reported at the beginning of the tragedy that the man was conscious and in contact with rescuers, communication with him has not been established since the last hours of Tuesday.

During the early hours of Wednesday, the main body of the truck was removed, but the driver's cabin still remains in the hole. This hole, which originally measured 10 meters wide by 6 meters deep, has expanded to reach 40 meters.

As a precautionary measure, authorities evacuated residents within a 200-meter radius around the incident site, fearing potential damage to gas pipelines.
