In Tokyo, Japan, the country's tallest tower, Tokyo Skytree, a popular tourist attraction, was temporarily closed after 20 visitors were trapped in an elevator for nearly six hours. The two elevators abruptly stopped shortly before 8:30 PM on Sunday, about 30 meters from the ground. One elevator was empty, but the other was carrying 20 people, including two children. Emergency workers opened emergency doors on both sides of the elevators and placed a metal slab between them. All visitors were rescued after about five and a half hours. The tower's operator, which opened on Monday, was closed for investigation. A neighboring elevator was also stopped next to the stalled ones.
