The Osaka Universal Expo, Japan, brought together more than 160 countries and was held on Yumeshima Island. Under the motto “Designing the Society of the Future for Our Lives,” the event focused on global solutions in mobility, sustainability, health, and culture. One of the main attractions of the venue was the Grand Ring, a monumental wooden structure without screws or nails.
At the Expo, various futuristic technologies gathered, such as autonomous electric buses, flying cars, and robots performing different service tasks in the venue. The buses moved autonomously in a controlled environment, and the robots managed assistance, cleaning, and security tasks.
Some of the highlighted innovations were the garbage collection robots that circulated in the pedestrian area of the venue. These robots, equipped with 3D mapping and GPS technology, moved autonomously and sorted waste according to their side openings. The 3D projections aimed to raise awareness about the harmony between humanity and nature.
Regarding the presented technologies, roads built with materials that capture carbon dioxide were also highlighted, which reduces the carbon footprint in the environment. Another notable innovation was the demonstration of a functioning flying car and the coexistence with robots in various services at the venue.
The Expo promoted the visualization of a sustainable and collaborative future among countries and individuals, clearly showing the potential of the presented technologies to transform our society towards a cleaner and more efficient model. On the other hand, the importance of unity in diversity was emphasized, represented by the Grand Ring as an architectural symbol of the Expo.
