Various natural disasters occur in different regions of Asia. Currently, Japanese authorities are struggling with wildfires, which have been the largest in decades and have already led to the death of one person and the evacuation of more than 1000 people.
According to estimates from the agency for managing emergency situations and fires, the area of wildfires in the forests of Ofunato in the Iwate Prefecture (in the northern part of the country) has reached 1200 hectares since their onset on average. A representative of the agency stated to France Press: "We are still determining the area that has burned, but it is the largest since 1992." Then, the wildfires engulfed 1030 hectares.
To combat the fires, 1700 firefighters from different regions of the country have been engaged. Footage from the air, shown on the public television channel NHK, revealed white smoke rising and covering the entire mountain peak.
Police reported finding the body of a man and also that more than 1000 people, living in the areas adjacent to the fire sites, had been evacuated, at a time when more than 80 buildings had been damaged in this locality, according to the local municipality of Ofunato. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
