Green Tea Benefits for Brain Health

Researchers from the medical school of Qazava University in Japan discovered that regular consumption of green tea can significantly reduce white matter damage in the brains of elderly individuals. This has become possible due to the antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds present in green tea, such as catechins, which help protect the brain's tissues from damage.

The researchers analyzed data from over 8000 people aged 65 and older and assessed the levels of white matter damage, serum indicators, and the overall volume of the brain using magnetic resonance imaging. It was found that the consumption of three cups of green tea daily significantly reduces white matter damage in the brain.

The researchers noted that those participants of the study who consumed at least 1.5 liters of green tea per day showed a 6% improvement in white matter conditions compared to those who consumed only one cup. They emphasized that the main function of white matter involves the transmission of nerve impulses from one part of the brain to another, and its active work is crucial for the exchange of information in various areas of the brain.
